Behind the Scenes: Bun In The Oven

We are to excited to announce that we are having a baby! We decided this week to tell our friends and family by sharing this adorable picture of us!

I love the vintage era especially the 1950s. This “Bun in the Oven” idea was something I wanted to do when we first found out we were pregnant. We shot this picture in our living room with my Youtube camera and lighting set up. It was quite enjoyable! I set my timer on for 10 seconds and 10 continuous shots with flash. I’m so proud of my daughter for doing such a great job. She often gets camera shy. It took several number of tries to get the perfect shot. Unfortunately, kids move around a lot and I was a bit of a diva when it came to my poses, we had no choice but to merge 2 pictures together.

I am a Photoshop addict. I started teaching myself photoshop about a year ago. But my husband is the best at it since he took it in college and is a cute computer nerd. We both stood up til 4 am editing this picture. Time flew by and we didn’t even realize it. It was enjoyable to spend time with him working on this project together. Below is the 2 pictures we merged. Don’t mind the clutter! We had to move our living room furniture to the sides and I had to take down m picture frames from that wall so it can be a white background.

How did I find the dress I wore? My best friend Hannah and her husband  were moving to another country.  Since she couldn’t bring all her clothes, she had a “shop in my closet for free” with her close friends. I immediately saw this beautiful vintage dress hanging on a hanger and I knew this was going to be the dress for this photoshoot. The color was gorgeous and I loved the polka dots and the trimming on the end of the dress. We really miss them but I am beyond honored to be wearing a dress she gave me for such a special milestone in our lives. Miss you Hannah and Courtney!

As for my husband and daughter’s outfits, it came straight from their closets. I knew I wanted my daughter to wear some sort of polka dots. Interestingly, you can’t tell from the picture but the “polka dots” are in fact blueberries! I wanted my husband to wear something “casual” for that 1950’s era. I did a little research and found out the mix matched pants and vest worked best with this photo. I went to 2 bakeries looking for a loaf of bread! At the time I went, it was noon. Little did I know, people buy bread in the morning which is why the first bakery ran out and didn’t have any. Thankfully, the second bakery did and I grabbed a few chocolate cannolis on the way out.

My hairstyle I did two victory rolls on each side and vintage waved the rest of my hair. The makeup was simple. Red lipstick and a small wing liner on my eyes. I recorded hair and makeup for my Youtube Channel. I still haven’t edited yet but stay tuned!

I hope you enjoyed reading this fun memory of ours. I will post more about the pregnancy soon!
